The Empowering Neurologist – David Perlmutter, MD, and Dr. Kelly Brogan
This episode of The Empowering Neurologist reviews the new book, Own Your Self by Dr. Kelly Brogan.
Dr. Brogan is a holistic health psychiatrist, author of the New York Times bestselling book, A Mind of Your Own, and the children’s book, A Time for Rain, and is co-editor of the landmark textbook, Integrative Therapies for Depression. She completed her psychiatric training and fellowship at NYU Medical Center after graduating from Cornell University Medical College and has a B.S. from M.I.T. in Systems Neuroscience. She is board-certified in psychiatry, psychosomatic medicine, and integrative holistic medicine and is specialized in a root-cause resolution approach to psychiatric syndromes and symptoms. She is a certified KRI Kundalini Yoga teacher and a mother of two.
What we explore today runs very much counter to how mood disorders, like depression and anxiety, are looked upon in America. Though we are often told otherwise, depression, for example, is not specifically an illness caused by a unique “chemical imbalance,” but rather, as Dr. Brogan makes very clear, a manifestation of a variety of factors, many of which are derived from our basic perceptions of the world around us and how we make decisions based upon these perceptions. Her book, and today’s discussion are empowering, and refreshing.
