  • Mindfulness Spotlight: Tami Simon of Sounds True Publishing

There’s no one recipe and no one path that is the ‘way’… Everybody has to find what’s true for them and I think the key is that we have to be willing to tell ourselves the truth. – Tami Simon [Read More]

David Perlmutter M.D. – Empowering Neurologist: The food, the facts, the science to control your genetic destiny. I purchased Grain Brain back in 2014 after being treated for some mental health issues, as I was looking out for alternative, holistic ways of managing my bipolar depression along with using the proper medication. The book was introduced to me by my brother, who follows the paleo diet, and it seemingly made a lot of sense. I hadn’t realized how much nutrition could influence mood. In February 2019, I started feeling depressed again but for some reason kept delaying my ECT treatments. Finally, at the beginning of July, I decided to do a series of ECT. At the same time I got off of  sugar and grains, and went gluten-free and ketogenic. I started exercising daily for one hour (shooting basketballs and weight training). The results? My head felt clearer and I Read More

David Perlmutter M.D. – Empowering Neurologist: The food, the facts, the science to control your genetic destiny. Some months ago I said to my neurologist that I needed to educate myself with regard to diet, and asked if she could recommend a book. She recommended Grain Brain. The book instantly won my attention because my father suffered from cognitive decline, and I have a fear of suffering the same fate. People look at me and ask what is going on, noting that, in a positive way, I look different! I know it’s because I made these changes because for my son’s birthday last week I snuck a few sweet treats (sugar, carbs, gluten) to celebrate, and I quickly became irritable and uncomfortable in my body. It is a everyday fight to avoid eating those things I like, but I want to make it a way of life, a better life. -Carolina Read More

David Perlmutter M.D. – Empowering Neurologist: The food, the facts, the science to control your genetic destiny. Back in February 2015, I was suffering from a terrible throat bug. I wasn’t sure what it was, but it had lasted for approximately 3 weeks before I decided I should go to the clinic. I went to an urgent care clinic out of convenience and the PA decided to run a strep test. At this time I had no concerns, and after receiving a positive test result the doctor prescribed me antibiotics for the next 2-3 weeks (I don’t recall exactly how long it was). To my chagrin, after the full run of antibiotics, I still had a scratchy throat. I decided I would just live with it and hope it eventually went away. Approximately one week later I began to have these unusual symptoms. Back pain, severe anxiety, and horrible headaches Read More

David Perlmutter M.D. – Empowering Neurologist: The food, the facts, the science to control your genetic destiny. I am a busy mom of 2, 40 years old, and own my own business. I enjoy lifting weights and doing cardio several days a week. I eat healthy, read labels etc. What I’m trying to say is that I’m very health conscious. However, for the past few years my energy levels, brain fog and binge eating have been increasingly worse. I have tweaked my diet (serval times), seen a naturopath, changed my workout routine and increased and improved my sleep. Nothing worked. I would forget everything. I cant remember a conversation I just had. I set alarms everyday to pick up my son from school so I don’t forget him.  I would want to fall asleep at 6pm at night because I am so physically and mentally drained. I have anxiety at Read More

David Perlmutter M.D. – Empowering Neurologist: The food, the facts, the science to control your genetic destiny. At 57 years-old and 460lbs, my father passed away. Watching this happen at 40, I knew I needed to turn my life around. Grain Brain, and a ketogenic lifestyle, did that for me. I went from 360 lbs. to ~250 lbs. in a couple years. I started with a modified keto diet, but as I saw results I continued to improve over a 3-year period to reach the optimal keto diet I am currently on, which is low-fat, high-protein, and extremely low-carb diet. As a lifestyle change, I have combined this with intense strength training. I feel 18 again, and can keep up with anyone else in the gym without needing carbs. I recover exceptionally well and my joints feel great. Best of all, my body is dropping fat fast. I’m almost in a Read More

David Perlmutter M.D. – Empowering Neurologist: The food, the facts, the science to control your genetic destiny. I’m 58 years old, and for the last two decades of my life, I’ve been battling crippling depression and anxiety. At least I was, until I discovered Grain Brain. As a result of following this nutritional, vitamin, sleep and exercise protocol I have taken back control of my health and seen miraculous results. I am now able to function without the aid of the three antidepressant medications I was previously taking. This, despite all previous attempts to wean myself off medication making my condition worse. I find myself feeling better than ever without the aid of the depression medications. I believe the quality of my life will continue to improve with the Grain Brain protocol. – Heather W.
